Moira's practice is concentrated in complex matrimonial matters and custody disputes. Her areas of expertise include divorce, separation, custody, visitation/parenting plans, child support, college expenses, alimony, income attribution, asset division, complex property division, parental relocation, paternity, grandparent rights, guardianships, contempt proceedings, and mediation.
Prior to entering private practice, Moira worked as an Assistant Treasurer for NSTAR and an Assistant Vice President at Fleet in Commercial Banking. Her strong background in financial planning is essential in assisting her clients with their own complex financial matters and property divisions. Attorney Tierney has broad reaching contacts in the community and works closely with other professionals in areas including real estate, retirement benefits, financial planning, tax implications, and business valuations, to ensure that each of clients is provided comprehensive representation in his or her unique case.
Moira received her education at Smith College and Suffolk University Law School. After receiving her education, there was never any doubt that Attorney Tierney would return to the area to provide legal services as she has very strong familial ties to the community. Moira's mother, Rosemary Tierney, was the Mayor of New Bedford from 1992- 1998; and the first female elected to the prestigious position. Moira's father, The Honorable John A. Tierney, was the District Attorney for Bristol County from 1975-1979, the City Solicitor of the City of New Bedford from 1983-1984, and an Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Superior Court from 1990 until his retirement in 2002.
As a certified mediator, Moira is a skilled negotiator who understands the value of reaching agreements outside of court when possible and in respecting the preference for discretion. However, when it is necessary, Attorney Tierney does not hesitate to aggressively represent her clients at hearings and at trial. She has successfully tried cases in Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Nantucket, and Plymouth Counties. Moira is also a Court Appointed Conciliator and has served as a Guardian Ad Litum at the request of Judges in Barnstable, Bristol, and Plymouth Counties.
Moira is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the New Bedford Bar Association, the Bristol Bar Association, and is a Founder of the South Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the American Inns of Courts.

Attorney Marinero brings her experience to the Law Office of Moira Tierney where she focuses her practice on areas of matrimonial law including: divorce, custody, alimony, parenting plans, removal cases, child support, and modifications.
Alixandra graduated with Honors from St. Bonaventure University (2007) and Roger Williams University School of Law (2010). While at St. Bonaventure University, Alixandra, a Political Science Major with a concentration in Non-Violent Conflict Resolution, worked on The Acorn, a peer-reviewed Journal of Gandhi-King Society and became a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society.
In Law School, Alixandra continued to pursue a passion for alternative dispute resolution and worked as a Court Appointed Mediator in the Rhode Island Court System, including Newport District Court, Newport Family Court, and Providence Family Court. Attorney Marinero has over 300 hours of training and mediations performed.
Attorney Marinero is steadfastly committed to her pro bono work. In 2010, Rhode Island Senator Donna Nesslebush, invited Alixandra to join the Rhode Island Bar Association's Social Security Sub- Committee, where she remains an active member today. She is a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ladies Auxiliary; and in 2011 she was appointed Vice President of the Board of Directors for The Venture Forthe Foundation. The Venture Forthe Foundation's mission is to support veterans who return from combat with a traumatic brain injury and is affiliated with Venture Forthe, Inc., one of leading health care agencies in New York State. As her father was a Green Beret in the during the Vietnam War, Alixandra understands the unique impact that divorce litigation has on active and retired Veterans, as it pertains to their pension benefits, disability benefits, and travel requirements. She is in an exceptional position to assist members of the military in the process.
Attorney Marinero is a member of the Family Law Section of the Massachusetts Bar Association and a member of both the New Bedford and Bristol County Bar Associations. Her experience both in litigation and in mediation is an asset to the Firm's clients.
